Establishing Justification in a Self-Defense/Use-of-Force case: This presentation will examine the elements required across all 50 states to establish a threat and justification under NYS PL Art. 35, as well as state-specific stand-your-ground and/or duty-to-retreat laws. The presentation will draw on past case studies and current events.
Bio:
Don Redl is a Board Certified Investigator and the Managing Partner of APEX INTELLIGENCE GROUP LLC. He is licensed in New York, Florida, and Wyoming, with over 30 years of experience as a New York State DCJS-certified Firearms Instructor (FA), General Topics/Use-of-Force Instructor (GT), and an expert in Scenario-Based Force-on-Force and Active Shooter Response Training. Don has led investigative and Executive Security operations for law firms, corporations, law enforcement, high-net-worth individuals, and government clients throughout the United States and internationally.
Don is a three-time published author: Get Off The X 2017, Fighting Handgun 2019, Force-on-Force 2022, and a nationally recognized speaker on critical topics such as: Use-of-Force, Firearms and Training Methodology, Force-on-Force & AirSoft Training Accidents, Situational Awareness and Negligent Security & Security Operations.
Don is a recognized Use-of-Force & Firearms Expert and has been called upon for investigative and litigation support in complex civil and criminal cases across the U.S., including subject matter expert consulting in both Private and Government matters representing both plaintiffs and/or defendants in New York, Florida, Colorado, and Illinois, including: Lawful Use-of-Force (Defense of Justification), Firearms Training Accidents, Scenario Based Force-on-Force / AirSoft Training Accidents - Gov. and Private and Recklessness / Negligence Shootings (Civil).
